Visit Rwanda deal does not ‘match ethics’ of PSG – Mulumbu
Former Paris Saint-Germain player Youssouf Mulumbu has criticized the club’s sponsorship deal with Rwanda, claiming it does not align with the club’s ethical values.
Mulumbu, who spent three years at PSG between 2005 and 2008, believes the partnership with Rwanda, which sees the country’s tourism board sponsor the club’s shirts, is not in line with the values the club should represent.
“PSG should be more responsible with their partnerships and ensure they are in line with the ethical standards of the club,” Mulumbu said in a recent interview.
The deal between PSG and Rwanda was signed in 2018 and is reportedly worth around 10 million euros per season.
Rwanda, known for its efforts in conservation and eco-tourism, has been using the partnership with PSG to boost its international profile and attract more visitors to the country.
However, Mulumbu argues that the club should consider the ethical implications of such partnerships and ensure they are not endorsing practices that go against their values.
PSG has not responded to Mulumbu’s comments, but the criticism has sparked a debate among fans and experts about the responsibilities of football clubs when it comes to sponsorship deals.
Some argue that clubs should be more selective in choosing their sponsors and ensure they do not promote products or services that contradict their values.
Others believe that clubs are businesses and should prioritize financial gains over ethical considerations.
Regardless of the differing opinions, Mulumbu’s comments have certainly brought more attention to the issue of ethics in sports sponsorship deals.
